THIS IS BOXING: Brno to host title fights, Fabiana Bytyqi’s final bout and the rise of a new generation

Brno is set to become the capital of Czech boxing once again. On 10 January 2026, the SONO Centre will host the latest instalment of the prestigious ‘THIS IS BOXING’ gala evening, offering a comprehensive overview of the current boxing scene. From amateur beginnings through international bouts to two major title fights. The highlight of the evening will be the final professional fight of Fabiana Bytyqi, the most successful Czech female boxer in history.
Fabiana Bytyqi: the champion’s final journey
A deeply moving highlight of the evening will be the farewell to Fabiana Bytyqi, the long-standing WBC world champion. In Brno, she will step into the ring for her final professional bout against an experienced international opponent, Sara Orszagi from Hungary, in a 6×2-minute bantamweight contest.
Bytyqi has been among the world’s elite for more than ten years, yet her sporting story is exceptional in its scope alone. She began her competitive sporting career at the age of three in karate, where she became Czech champion as a teenager and, in 2008, won the title of world runner-up. She subsequently ranked among the absolute elite of world kickboxing. In 2012, she became world champion in low-kick and, a year later, world runner-up in K-1.
Having taken up amateur boxing back in 2011, her path naturally led her to the professional ring. She made her professional debut on 7 March 2015, and it was during this period that she began to build her career under the coaching guidance of Lukáš Konečný, which had a profound influence on her future sporting direction. Just one year later, she won the WBC junior world title. In 2017, she added the WBO European title and the WBC Silver belt to her collection.
She reached the absolute pinnacle of her career on 22 September 2018, when she became the WBC world champion in the mini-flyweight division. She subsequently defended her world title four times, including in gruelling bouts against Mexican opponents, and kept the Czech Republic firmly on the map of world women’s boxing for many years.
However, her career was not without its obstacles. Following the Covid hiatus, she made a successful return in 2022 by defending her title in Kosovo. Two years later, she lost her belt in a bout against Tina Rupprecht after the fight was affected by a serious eye injury. Nevertheless, she has remained a symbol of professionalism, resilience and sporting integrity.
“I’m not taking this lightly and I’ll give it my all, just as I do in every fight. But afterwards, I’ll be crying my eyes out,” says the champion, who wants to bring her journey to a close in the same way she has lived it: with an honest performance, without cutting corners or making compromises.
According to her long-time coach Lukáš Konečný, it was essential that her farewell bout carry appropriate sporting significance. “I’ve been expecting her to retire for quite some time. She’s a woman and should also have space for family life. I think she’s chosen the right time,” says Konečný.
Jaromíra Konečná: the new generation takes up the baton
Alongside the final chapter of an extraordinary career, the gala evening will also offer a glimpse into the future of Czech boxing. Jaromíra Konečná will take to the ring for a 3×3-minute amateur bout against Kristýna Neumanová, a bronze medallist at the U19 European Championships and runner-up in the Czech Republic.
This clash between two young boxers, both ambitious and with a proven track record, symbolically links the end of one era with the emergence of a new generation. It is precisely this contrast that forms one of the cornerstones of the ‘TOHLE JE BOX’ gala evenings.
Two major title fights
The organisers have confirmed that the gala evening will feature no fewer than two title fights, which are set to attract the attention of fans both at home and abroad.
The rematch for the Czech Republic championship title
One of the highlights of the programme will be the rematch between Miloš Beránek (15–4–1) and Erik Agateljan (11–1–1) for the Czech Republic middleweight (72.5 kg) title. Their first bout in March 2024 in Ústí nad Labem ended in a draw, and this time we can expect no such compromise. The winner will take home not only the prestige but also the championship belt.
GBU Intercontinental Title
Michal Miko (7–1–2) will also be in action in a title bout, facing Finnish opponent Rasmus Bergman (5–2–0) in a welterweight (66.6 kg) contest. The Global Boxing Union’s intercontinental belt will be on the line.
THIS IS BOXING: the whole story in one evening
The evening’s programme will feature a total of 13 bouts, including amateur bouts, professional fights and title bouts. The ‘THIS IS BOXING’ gala evening will thus showcase boxing in all its breadth, without shortcuts or frills, emphasising sporting quality, respect and the stories of the people who step into the ring.
